1. Introduction

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Knotly mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Services”). By downloading, installing, or using Knotly, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree, please stop using the Services and delete the application from your device.

2. Scope of Services

Knotly is an AI-powered iOS app for knitters and crocheters. The Services include:

  • Importing knitting and crochet patterns from PDFs, photos, links, and pasted text
  • AI-powered parsing of patterns into interactive, step-by-step views
  • Row counter and progress tracking across projects
  • An AI assistant that explains stitch abbreviations and pattern terminology
  • Optional iCloud sync across your Apple devices

We may modify, update, or discontinue parts of the Services at any time.

3. User Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Knotly. Users between 13 and 15 may use the App only with parental or guardian consent. Knotly is not intended for children under 13.

4. User Obligations

You agree not to:

  • Upload patterns or content you do not own or lack the rights to use
  • Upload unlawful, harmful, infringing, or defamatory content
  • Use AI output in deceptive, fraudulent, or commercially infringing ways
  • Reverse-engineer, tamper with, or bypass technical protections in the App
  • Use bots, scrapers, or automation tools against our Services
  • Interfere with the proper functioning of the Service or other users

Violations may result in suspension or termination of access.

5. Intellectual Property

Our Rights

All rights in the Services — including the Knotly app, AI prompts and pipelines, design, branding, software, and content — belong to Knotly. You may not copy, modify, redistribute, or create derivative works without written permission.

Your Content

Patterns, photos, and notes you upload remain your property. By uploading content, you grant Knotly a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Services to you (for example, parsing your pattern into an interactive view and syncing it to your own iCloud account).

Pattern Copyright

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use any pattern you import. Knotly is a personal tool — it does not grant you any rights to the underlying patterns, and you may not redistribute imported patterns to others through the App.

AI Output

AI-generated results in Knotly:

  • Are probabilistic and may contain errors
  • Should be reviewed using your own judgment as a knitter or crocheter
  • Do not constitute professional pattern-design advice

6. Subscriptions & Purchases

Access to certain features may require a paid purchase or subscription through the Apple App Store.

  • Pricing and tiers are shown in the App Store at the time of purchase
  • Subscriptions, if any, auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal
  • You can manage and cancel purchases from your Apple ID settings
  • Payments are processed by Apple; we never see your payment details

Refunds

Payments are non-refundable except as required by law or by Apple's App Store policies. Refund requests are handled by Apple.

7. Third-Party Services

Knotly relies on third-party providers for:

  • AI text and image processing
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Crash reporting and basic analytics
  • Apple iCloud sync (when enabled by you)

Use of these services is subject to the relevant third-party terms. We are not responsible for third-party outages or errors.

8. Service Availability

We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. The App may be unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or third-party outages. We may modify or discontinue features at any time.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” We make no warranties regarding:

  • Accuracy of pattern parsing or AI explanations
  • Suitability for any specific project, yarn, or skill level
  • Availability or uptime of the Services
  • Compatibility with all devices or iOS versions
  • Error-free or uninterrupted operation

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Knotly is not liable for:

  • Errors in pattern parsing, row counting, or AI explanations
  • Wasted yarn, time, or materials
  • Lost data, projects, or progress
  • Third-party service outages or data issues
  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

If liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the Services in the previous 3 months, or USD 50, whichever is greater.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Knotly harmless from claims arising from:

  • Your misuse of the Services
  • Patterns or content you upload without proper rights
  • Your reliance on AI results without independent verification
  • Your breach of these Terms

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • Fraudulent or abusive activity is detected
  • Required by law
  • The Services are discontinued

You may stop using the Services at any time by deleting the App. Any payments already made remain non-refundable except as required by law.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the operator's jurisdiction. Disputes will first be addressed through good-faith negotiation, and otherwise handled by the competent courts of that jurisdiction unless local law requires otherwise.

14. Miscellaneous

  • Severability: Invalid provisions do not affect the rest of the Terms.
  • Entire Agreement: These Terms together with the Privacy Policy form the full agreement.
  • No Waiver: Failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of that right.
  • Assignment: You may not assign your rights; we may assign ours.
  • Language: The English version of these Terms governs.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. Material updates will be communicated through the App or by email. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
